Our History
Del City became a part of Oklahoma in 1948 and was the dream of George Epperly. The City was named after Mr. Epperly's daughter Delphinia. Since its inception, the city has served both military and civilan residents. In honor of Oklahoma's rich history the city houses the County & Western Museum, Del City Preservation & Historical Society, and War Memorial.
The Del City Historical Society was organized in 1975 with Andy Evans as its first president. Several children of the Eighty-niners (89ers) still lived in the area, and they identified every original homestead within city limits. Residents also learned that their town was on the path of the 1870s Arbuckle Trail, a Texas to Kansas cattle trail.
Notable residents from Del City
John Smith, the 1988 and 1992 US Olymipic Freestyle Champion Wrestler grew up in Del City Oklahoma and attended Del City High School. Mr. Smith is currently the wrestling coach for Oklahoma State University (OSU). Some of his accomplishments include being the first wrestler ever nominated for the World Trophy, which he received in 1992. Bob Kalsu, an All-American tackle at the University of Oklahoma and NFL player for the Buffalo Bills, attended Del City High School. Robert Kalsu Stadium is named in his honor.
Nick Blackburn, is a Major League Baseball player, pitching for the Minnesota Twins from 2008–2011.
Education
Mid-Del Public Schools System is the main source of education in Del City with one High School, two Middle Schools and three Elementary schools located in Del City. Del City also has two Private Schools located in Del City.
Higher Education is easily available with Rose State College, Mid-Del Technology Center, Oklahoma City University and University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center all nearby.
